COMPANY
BACKGROUND
House of Hemp is a proudly, majority woman-owned,
South African company founded in 2001 with the vision to explore
existing business opportunities in the global Hemp market. It is one
of the first South African companies to sell Hemp Fabric directly
to the public with an emphasis on increasing the availability of Hemp
to South Africans and the world!
HoH was founded by Thandeka Kunene as a vehicle for the collective
marketing campaign of the NHF (National Hemp Foundation). It was funded
by the DACST (Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology)
and launched in 2001 by Minister Ben Ngubane, aiming towards being
a community-private-public partnership (CPPP).
Our business includes the marketing and selling of Hemp Fabrics and
end-products. We also support and invest in Hemp beneficiating
enterprises. We have successfully marketed local Hemp products, including
men’s and women’s fashion, home décor, drinks,
and cosmetics and oils.
We grew our brand through an extensive PR campaign that created good
brand awareness and increased the demand for hemp products. We have
extensive local and international networks in the Hemp industry, from
material suppliers to designers and fashion houses.
The House of Hemp owners and managers have between them at least 25
years experience in Hemp industry research, selling Hemp products
and raising the public’s awareness of the many benefits of this
wonder-plant!
