Hemp

House of Hemp is one of the largest cultivators of hemp in South Africa.

Hemp, or industrial hemp, legally certified to be cultivated in South Africa, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial use of its derived products.

While hemp does not have the psychoactive chemical THC, it does contain the cannabinoid CBD, which is recognised for its numerous health benefits for relaxation and relief of pain and anxiety.

House of Hemp cultivates, processes and produces products within the following agri-processing industries: 

FOODS (HEMP SEEDS & OILS)

Both as a food additive and as a stand-alone food product, hemp contains nutrients, fatty acids, and useful bioactive compounds which provide a wide variety of health benefits including easing inflammation, pain, anxiety and cramping.  

COSMETICS (HEMP OILS & SLUDGE)

Rich in omega 6-fatty acids, CBD and hemp oils are active on the skin making is a natural alternative in moisturising, nourishing and rejuvenating the skin within the cosmetics industry.

CLOTHES (HEMP FIBRES)

Used as a versatile fabric, hemp offers warmth, softness and durability for products such as apparel, accessories, shoes, furniture, and home furnishings.

SHELTER (HOUSING FROM HEMP BIOMASS)

Hemp as a building block allows for superior insulation which is more resistant to mould, mildew, rot, and other moisture-related problems within the building industry.

ANIMAL FEED (SEEDCAKE)

Hemp can be safely used in the animal feed industry to improve the health of piglets, for laying hens, livestock, cattle, cats, dogs, horses and birds.

FUEL (BIOMASS BIO-ETHANOL & HEMP OIL BIO DIESEL)

Environmentally-friendly hemp fuel and biodiesel is the most cost-efficient, consistently fast-growing and valuable of all the fuel crops and is proven to be more lubricating than petroleum.
